Troubleshooting / Re: Lan0 & wan0 speed
« on: July 17, 2014, 10:00:32 AM »
B is still detecting the peer on lan0, which it should not. There is some reason for this. Are lan0/wan0 perhaps connected to the same switch or vlan?

For starters, lets fix the lan0 and wan0 cabling. The 'Peer detected on lan0' on both ends means both are reversed.

Installation / Re: loading image to Physical Hdd
« on: July 17, 2014, 08:00:28 AM »
Hi Anil,

Here is an alternative method:

1) Write the image to a 16GB flash drive and boot from USB
2) Log in and stop all services: "/etc/init.d/wanosd stop-all"
3) dd if=/dev/sdb of=/dev/sda bs=10M

*Note sdb here represents the flash drive and sda the HDD. Triple check with 'fdisk -l' that these are correct before running dd.

Hi Anil,

Please let us know if you managed to solve this problem, since the solution could also help someone else.

Are the two drives that did not work perhaps SCSI based?

Installation / Re: SSD disk will be advantage ?
« on: July 16, 2014, 08:29:56 PM »
Hi Ram,

Yes, the SSD does make a noticeable difference. The 64 GB limit is only in express though e.g. today we built a spec for a 100 Mbps link with two 128 GB SSD's.

The performance benefit of the SSD's that is applicable to Wanos is the IO per second, random reads/writes and the low seek times. Although not often, in some cases a good quality USB flash can out perform an old HDD.

Features / Re: Feature Requests

Thanks for the request. Yes, good point about the per peer reports, definitely adding as a priority item. The list has been updated.

The datastore consists of random byte strings. Perhaps we can solve this request in another way.

Low-Low does 10x on compressible data.

As mentioned before, bidirectional optimization is enabled by default in all configuration options.

To help, some basic info is needed e.g:
What exactly happened here?
Did icmp pings drop completely?
Was the web interface up?
What did the logs say?
How did you fix it?
Is this running as a VM/ which hypervisor? (since you mentioned in another thread that you can't get the HDD image to work)
What are the hardware specs?
How much disk space is available?
Are any extra sites configured in MultiSite?
How are the tests done (tools/protocols/files)?

It is not a requirement, e.g. it is possible to have 1 Gbps lan and 100 Mbps wan.

Is it possible that one of the more advance features (LACP, Private VLANs, Port Mirroring, etc ) of the distributed switches are clashing with the promiscuous mode?

Also would it be possible to use two standard vswitches or a standard vswitch with vlans per port group to test whether the distributed switch is the cause?

Deployment / Re: how many EDGE support one Core
« on: July 13, 2014, 11:25:32 AM »
Hi Ram,

Express is limited to 4 GB RAM and 64 GB datastore. That is the only difference at the moment.

Hi Anil,

Edit:
Update:
The Core/Edge High/Low terms are phasing out. Compression and Dedup levels are now configurable for peak compression ratio or for peak throughput.

Also FAQ: Hardware limits (Wanos Express vs Wanos Plus)

Configuration / Re: By-pass rules required on Edge and Core?
« on: July 08, 2014, 09:53:56 AM »
Hi Peter, bypass rules looks ok. Just to be sure the policy is applied restart the service: configure > reset. I'll test the same configuration in the mean time.
