Vmware ESXi Intel Nuc + Wanos
« on: January 24, 2015, 03:17:20 PM »
Hello ahenning,

I would like to use intel nuc with ESXI. There is with one nic for both management traffic and production (VMs) traffic. Would your setup with LAN/WAN also apply to my scenario? Or is there something else which needs to be configured?

According some references there needs to be VMkernel port also added together virtual port group on virtual switch. However both scenarios are not working for me. I am able to connect to ESXi on management IP. But if I try to connect on specific VMs IP which is in same segment this is not working. I can also not ping between VM IP (X.X.X.10) and VMkernel port (X.X.X.11) which are in same VLAN on virtual switch.

Thanks in advance for your replay.

Hi Marcoba,

I'll have to lab this up sometime. I am not sure what the impact of the management IP on the same NIC as the VM's combined with the VLANs will have, but it sounds like your setup is very similar to Dave99 (http://wanos.co/forum/index.php?topic=150.0).

When running Wanos on the lan0 port-group vlan and a different wan0 port group vlan, the idea is to bridge the two vlans so that they are one network via the Wanos bridge. It does not really interfere with the Management vlan, so should work as normal.

Perhaps once the server and workstation VM's can communicate normally with all the devices and gateways they are supposed to, then we can look at your ESXi config and determine the best place to add the Wanos VM.
