time delay on wanos appliance
« on: May 04, 2015, 11:24:02 PM »
Hi
Hi,

Since optimization itself takes time,
I am just wondering  how much time wanos will spend on processing a packet for optimization in general ( compared to a wire without optimization )

Or how can i give a test to see it ?

thanks

Hi Peter,

You can measure the time with iperf. The UDP test stats provides the time. With the UDP test you can also set the throughput rate, so that you can see the delay at various speeds. Remember there are other delays as well e.g. at 100 Mbps saturation on a 100 Mbps Ethernet network, the delay without optimization is often as high as 8-10ms.

Edit: Just to clarify, the time spent doing compression and dedup will be relative to the hardware processing power (CPU, RAM speed, IO). Hence in a best case scenario the burst speed on the Wanos 200 Atom appliance might be 30 Mbps with all features enabled (70 Mbps on hot transfers), but we rate it at 5 Mbps for example.
