Excellent. Thanks for the quick responses. Wanos is looking more impressive every day!

Perhaps this is more of a feature request, but it would be really nice if you could export and import configurations. Perhaps in xml format similar to pfSense.
Also, it would be nice to have the ability to edit traffic policies, rather than delete/re-add to change rules.

While im making suggestions... Ever consider developing a pfsense plugin? I cant imagine a better way to really reach a ton of networks. Im sure this is much easier said than done though ;-).

A quick "bypass mode" option similar to what I have seen on riverbed would be another nice option. I know this can be done with traffic policies, but a quick way to bypass all traffic would be useful.

Fantastic! I will get this loaded up on my home ESXi server and report back, probably this weekend.

Troubleshooting / Re: Error at boot from SSD on RS140

Yes that was on ESXi. I did run the same test without the hypervisor and throughput appeared to be the same. BTW, is there some more standard test I can use to benchmark? This would insure that myself, and others have some kind of similar point of reference when comparing performance for different hardware / configurations.

I got bored and went into the office late last night. Your suggested fix works perfectly. I now have a fully functional RS140 wanos box in production! Thanks for your help!

I will say that I dont see a perceivable improvement in performance running without the hypervisor though. I may go back to running this atop of ESXi for the increased utility. Snapshots, Veeam backups, etc.

FAQ / Re: 200 Mbps? 500 Mbps? 1 Gbps?
« on: January 20, 2015, 10:30:00 PM »
From the testing I have done with the E3-1245 it looks like you would need a i7-4790K to get close to 100 Mbps and would probably have to overclock into the mid 4Ghz range to break the 100 Mbps barrier with site-to-site. At least with wanos version 1.4.1.

I can confirm that the E3-1245 with a single SSD maxes out at a touch under 80 Mbps on the high setting. The CPU does appear to be the bottleneck. Still results in VERY impressive performance.

General Discussion / Re: Wanos Hardware Appliances

Any updates on the 400 and 600? Benches? Something that could handle high setting at 50Mb with 100Mb bursts? Optional Virtual appliances like Silverpeak (and I think even Riverbed) sell would be nice too. This is considering the Express VM (1.4.1) is limited at 20Mb.

We would like to support this project, but the 200 is not beefy enough for our needs.

Awesome. Will test this upcoming weekend. Running on ESXi now and the improvement in WAN performance so far is impressive.  :)

OK, I downloaded the two files to the appropriate location using another linux box and the system boots to the login prompt. So thats progress! Strange thing is that I cannot ping any systems on the LAN after running wanos-cfg just as can I do successfully with the VM. Tried both ports and no dice. That may just require more investigation on my part, but this is just where I am stuck now.

For testing I will just load ESXi and run the VM for now. Let me know if I missed anything obvious on the networking. Thanks!

Troubleshooting / Error at boot from SSD on RS140
« on: January 16, 2015, 05:02:19 PM »
I wrote the wanos boot image from wanos-1.4.1.img using Win32diskimager and everything seemed to go well, but when I boot from the SSD on the RS140 system things seem to initialize until I get the error:
[Firmware Warn]: GHES: Failed to read error status block address for hardware error source: 1

That error just repeats every minute or so, boot never completes and I cannot get into the system

Even got the same error when I used clonezilla to image a VM to SSD.
Any ideas? I would like to run wanos on dedicated hardware vs ESXi + VM. Thanks.

To clarify, the system is a new Lenovo RS140 with an E3-1245 processor with 128GB SSD. (AHCI Mode)

Troubleshooting / Re: Intermittent WAN Issues After wanos Install

Two days in and things are looking good. After all, I have had wanos running at my house for months without issue. Still not sure what caused the loop here, but I have made mistakes before ;-) Gonna put the other pieces in place this weekend and test some more.

Well I think I got it figured out. All I did was delete the BRIDGE vSwitch, then created another one. After that I enabled promiscuous mode on the port group within the BRIDGE and LAN vSwitches. So the vSwitches have promiscuous mode disabled, but the port groups have it enabled... Im not sure how that is different being that I did not use the VLAN method, but it seems to work just fine now. Still have some testing I need to do to make sure its all good, but I will update this thread when I determine the issue is 100% fixed.

This is a remote office with a 100/20 link. pfSense is processing all of the traffic, and the wonos box is setup to bypass all traffic #99 rule. The handful of times I have turned on wanos and changed pfSense's LAN connection from LAN vSwitch to the BRIDGE vSwitch the strange disconnects happen. Most of the issues seem to be related to devices connected to the physical switch, which is odd. When I run continuous pings to wanos IP and the physical switches management IP I get random dropped packets.

I feel like there has got to be some kind of loop somewhere, but when I draw out the topology, I cant see how this would be the case.

Im not sure if this matters but just having wanos on by itself doesnt cause an issue, its only when I move pfSense's LAN interface to the BRIDGE vSwitch so traffic traverses the wanos VM that things start to go sideways.

Im not using port groups and vlans to make the bridge, just a separate vSwitch like this: http://wanos.co/forum/index.php?topic=110.0
On both the LAN vSwitch and BRIDGE vSwitch I do have promiscuous mode enabled at vSwitch level.
wan0 is connected to the BRIDGE vSwitch along with pfSense while lan0 is connected to the LAN vSwitch.
